With the rapid growth and expansion of Lee County and Auburn south of Interstate 85, the Moore’s Mill Road bridge has become more and more of a bottleneck. For several years the City of Auburn, in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Transportation, has sought a solution to this issue. Due to development at the north and south ends of the bridge, real estate was scarce to make improvements. Finally, a plan was developed and Scott Bridge was awarded a $10.9 million contract to remove the existing two-lane, functionally obsolete, bridge and replace it with a modern 5 lane bridge with a protected multi-use path on the west side of the bridge.
