Summary: In a remarkable collaboration, Scott Bridge Company and United Contractors joined forces to undertake the transformative Bobby Jones Expressway Interchange project in Augusta, spanning Richmond and Columbia Counties. This monumental $192 million venture aimed to reshape the landscape of transportation infrastructure.

SBC’s role encompassed a spectrum of vital tasks. As master builders, we orchestrated the construction of five distinct bridges, including two intricate interchange flyover bridges. Our engineering prowess came to the forefront as we engaged in Value Engineering discussions with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), leading to an innovative design alteration. The decision to employ steel girders for the flyover bridges, with fabrication carried out locally in Augusta, underscored our commitment to excellence. We also skillfully managed the installation of the Mechanically Stabilized Earth Wall, a mammoth undertaking spanning over 50,000 square feet.

The journey was not without its challenges. Ensuring the availability of necessary materials and a skilled labor force, along with orchestrating subcontractors, demanded a deft touch. SBC’s experience and leadership shone through, transforming obstacles into opportunities for innovation. Result: The culmination of tireless efforts led to a triumphant outcome. The project, originally slated for completion according to contractual terms, was delivered eight months ahead of schedule. This achievement speaks volumes about our team’s tenacity, proficiency, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
