In 2018, Scott Bridge Company completed the replacement of the existing bridge over the Altamaha River on Route 1 with a wider bridge spanning over 4,000 feet, plus two smaller relief bridges. The unique character of the river added to the challenge of this project, with flooding occurring with almost every rainfall during the spring, and the river narrowing with drier weather in the fall. The ecologically sensitive nature of this river allowed Scott Bridge Company an opportunity to show that environmental protection is high on our agenda. Once again we demonstrated our ability to get in and out of the river as quickly as possible to minimize ecological impacts. Cofferdams included in the design protected our workers from the river and the river from our work. Work began on this project in February of 2015 and was completed in 2018.
