Scott Bridge Company was subcontracted to build the substructure on the new interchange portion of the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Central Business District project in downtown Birmingham. The new interchange connects the Red Mountain Expressway to I-20/59. The scope of work included deep excavations adjacent to the existing roadways, driving h-pile, and constructing concrete elements. The concrete work included constructing a straddle cap crossing over the existing interstate without delaying traffic. Scott Bridge Company began work on the project in 2017 and successfully completed all contracted work in 2019.
