Description:
Work to replace the existing bridge over the Altamaha River on Route 1 with a wider bridge spanning
over 4,000 feet plus two smaller relief bridges is well underway. The unique character of the river makes
this work all the more challenging with flooding occurring with almost every rain fall during the spring to
the river narrowing with drier weather in the fall to where a person can almost walk to the first river
bent and stay on dry ground. The ecologically sensitive nature of this river allows Scott Bridge Company,
Inc. an opportunity to show that environmental protection is high on our agenda. Once again we get to
demonstrate our ability to get in and out of the river as quickly as possible to minimize any impacts to
the river. Cofferdams will protect our workers from the river and the river from our work. Work began
on this project in February of 2015 on this project and is expected to be completed by September, 2017.
